Title: The Hobbit

The Hobbit is a fantasy novel first published in 1937. I think it is interesting because of the descriptive language and because I like fantasy based books.

Hi Matthew,
What a great book you are reading! This is quite a difficult book to read, I am glad you are taking up this challenge. Remember to let us know the dates you are reading and how much of the book you read each day. You can pick out different chapters and tell us more about them. Well done and thank you for your first entry.

The Hobbit

Today I read from page 76 to 96 of The Hobbit. The hero of the story, Bilbo Baggins has just found a magic ring which makes him invisible. After he found the ring he realised it belonged to Gollum. Gollum is a creature who lives in swamps and caves. Gollum is a strange creature who calls himself "precious", loves the ring and doesn't want to lose it. Bilbo and Gollum had a riddle contest which Bilbo won.

Tittle: The Hobbit

This week I read pages 115 to 223.
After being rescued by the Eagle King Bilbo and his friends continued on their quest to the big forest of Mirkwood. Along the way they encountered giant spiders and wood elves. Everyone except for Bilbo was captured by the wood elves. Bilbo rescued them. Bilbo and his friends came to a city and were welcomed by the water elves who lived there. They travelled to the Dragon's Mountain. The Dragon's name is Smaug. Bilbo stole a golden cup from the dragon, Smaug got really angry and hunted for them but couldn't find them. Bilbo talked to the dragon and the dragon told him to stay away from the mountain.

The Hobbit

On the weekend I finished reading The Hobbit. After they were rescued by the Eagle King, Bilbo and his friends went in search of Beorn who is a shape changer. When they found him they went to the forest of Mirkwood riding Beorn's ponies which he had leant them. Mirkwood is an enormous forest in which they discovered giant spiders. Bilbo's friends were captured by the spiders but Bilbo rescued them. They went on and were captured by some wood elves which Bilbo, again, rescued his friends from. They came to a city of lake elves and were made welcome. They stayed for a few days before leaving for the Dragon's Mountain. Bilbo stole a golden cup, this enraged the dragon. The dragon flew off to destroy the city of Dale, but a man called Bard killed the dragon with a black arrow. A war started between the goblins who were with the evil wolves against a team of humans, elves, dwarves and Bilbo. Bilbo's side is helped by the giant eagles who had rescued them before. Bilbo's side won because they also had help from Beorn. In the end three of Bilbo's companions died and Bilbo traveled home to Hobbitin.
